The Science of Well-Being for Teens, Week-6, Part-1

Which #psychprotip from Module 2-5 did you pick and why?

As part of this training, I decided to meditate for ten minutes every day. I've always found meditation to be fascinating, and I've had a few sporadic experiences with it through yoga sessions that I've taken in the past.

Which #psychprotip from Module 6 did you pick to help you implement the strategy?

Because I used to have a habit of doing my workout and yoga then meditating as part of my yoga class, I tried to use the habit loop tip. However, I hadn't kept up with my workouts so it wasn't as effective the first two days. I decided to switch tactics and use tempation bundling. I'd been meaning to start the Bridgerton series on Netflix, so I played that while I worked out. At that point, the habit loop kicked in and I was able to meditate.

How many times you did you PLAN to do the #psychprotip and how many times did you ACTUALLY do it?

I planned to use the tips for seven days, however I was only successful on four of those days. As mentioned above, my original tactic of hacking the habit loop didn't work because I didn't have a steady workout routine. Once I rethought my approach and added temptation bundling, it was much easier to complete the habit.

Which factors contributed to your progress and what obstacles (if any) got in the way?

It definitely helped that I had practised yoga and meditation before; once I got going, it was simple to recall how to do it. I wasn't prepared for this, but the fact that I hadn't practised yoga or worked out in a while meant that I had to re-learn the habit from scratch.

Did your happiness measures change over time?

I noticed a significant increase in my wellness score from the beginning of the course (early May), to now (mid June).

How was the overall experience for you?

I appreciated having the impression that I could better regulate my emotions. Too frequently, I get the impression that they are fully independent of me and doing their own affairs. Sincerely, realising that my actions can improve my mood has changed my entire world.
